DMN Africa
DMN Africa
DMN Africa was founded by Wambui Kuria as a transformative community dedicated to empowering Black professionals and women balancing motherhood and careers. The initiative focuses on equipping members with digital skills to create profitable online businesses while building a strong online presence.
Challenge:
The founder aimed to create a platform that not only trained women in remote work skills but also helped them position themselves effectively on LinkedIn to attract opportunities. This vision was inspired by Wambui’s personal journey of transitioning from corporate work to remote work after maternal health challenges forced her to choose between her career and family. Wambui’s goal was to raise awareness of maternal health issues and their impact on women’s careers. She advocates for better workplace policies to support young parents and promotes remote work and online entrepreneurship as viable solutions to the difficult choice between family and career.

Solution
Wambui Kuria launched DMN Africa with a multifaceted approach:
1.Community Launch:
Leveraging her strong online presence, Wambui nurtured and attracted women to join the community.
2.Community Building:
Creating a safe and supportive environment for women to share challenges, celebrate wins, and grow together.
3.Training Programs:
Conducting workshops and coaching sessions that trained over 50 women in digital skills, including LinkedIn positioning, content creation, and branding.
4. Personal Branding:
Helping members optimize their LinkedIn profiles and craft professional narratives to build authority and attract opportunities.
5. Event Organization & Marketing:
Wambui spearheaded awareness campaigns for three DMN Africa events, mobilizing attendees through WhatsApp groups and social media. The events were highly successful, featuring notable speakers like Jayne Irungu, founder of Supa Dupa, and Leah Omil, founder of OML Career Staffing.
6. Graphics, Website Design & Development:
Wambui, along with her assistant Solomon Mungai, designed marketing materials and developed the DMN Africa website, showcasing the community and event details.
7. Facilitating Events:
With the support of co-founder Phoebe Mutwiri, DMN Africa was invited to facilitate a career day at Riara Group of Schools, which was a great success and provided valuable insights.
